WHAT MY CLIENTS ARE SAYING

“Kate has been instrumental in helping us lay better foundations for our sales, marketing, and business design.

Kate has this uncanny ability to take in a lot of information (both said and unsaid) and distill it into clear and digestible next steps. It's hard to imagine how we would have sifted through the many-layered mess we were in last year without Kate's keen eye and thoughtful support. It is no wonder some of her clients see her as their business therapist."

Figure out what’s worth doing.

Work should facilitate, not eclipse your life. That’s why it’s key to be discerning with the business choices available to you.

Does the shiny new thing you’re thinking about actually fit you and what you’re trying to build? What are the business decisions you need to make so you have the freedom to live the life you want to lead?

Through dedicated thought partnership each month, I help you make intentional, meaningful progress in the direction you want to head.

Free up mental and emotional energy.

Tired of making decisions in isolation or relying solely on family, friends, or peers for advice?

You’re not alone anymore. With me alongside, you’ll have someone to regularly check in with about all the things you’d typically avoid or overthink.

Clients call me their business therapist, because I ask deep and thoughtful questions, I listen to “the thing under the thing”, and I make connections that are difficult to spot when you’re so close to the problem.

Instead of getting stuck or overwhelmed, you have the comfort of knowing, “I’ll save this for when I next talk to Kate”, so you can get on with your day, free from that underlying worry.

Lead your business with clarity and intention.

Respecting your humanity in business isn’t self-indulgent; it’s self-sustaining. With the much-needed room to think and breathe, you can move forward creatively, confidently, even playfully, to grow the business that’s right for you.

I support my clients to grow on their own terms. They read during their lunch breaks, take a bunch of vacation time each year and love what they do. They make good money doing work that’s meaningful, in a way that’s sustainable, so they can be in it for the long haul.

I want this for you too.

WHAT MY CLIENTS ARE SAYING

“My goal isn't to just grow, grow, grow, but to be really intentional with my business.

Kate has such a unique approach to business advising. [She] is warm and approachable, personalizes the session directly towards your goals, and cheers you on. She has been incredibly respectful of my they/them pronouns and my unique business model and goals.

Kate really helped me to see how much marketing I was already doing, explained the different types of marketing to me, talked through with me what was working and not working in my business, guided me to make some language tweaks to my marketing, helped me define success and improve my confidence in my fee model, and talked about sustainable ways to do marketing.

Kate is a really wonderful person to have on your business team!”

Puzzles I Help Solve:

I don’t view business as a series of problems to fix, I see it as an evolving collection of puzzles to solve. Here are the main puzzles I help my clients solve:

  • Perhaps your business has hit a plateau, and you’re not sure what’s next. Maybe you want to narrow down or clarify your niche, or choose which services or products to run with.

I’ll help you put some brave stakes in the ground and make considered choices.

By working together long term, we proactively spot problems so you’re no longer waiting until the top or the bottom of the rollercoaster to ask for help.

  • For any marketing or sales practice to be not only effective but sustainable (and remember, we want you to be in this for the long haul), it has to fit the Venn diagram of your people, your business model, and your preferences.

I help you understand what this looks like for you.

For example, if you say you hate writing or video or social media… guess where we’re not going to start: writing or video or social media! There is much more room than social media has led you to believe.

We’ll figure out the core foundational marketing and/or sales practices that you can do repeatedly, and perhaps a few other things you can layer on when needed, so that getting new business no longer seems like a happy accident but rather a reliable outcome of your intentional efforts.

  • What are the ideas in your notes app that you never get around to? What decisions have you been stuck on for months, even years?

When we work together, you’ll have the dedicated space and support you need to step out of your everyday and make real, tangible progress on these ‘important but never urgent’ projects.

Maybe you want to have the headspace to map out a website refresh, create a plan for nurturing your referral network, set some client boundaries (and get support to stick to them), plan ahead so you can enjoy your summer, or come up with a marketing rhythm you can sustain.

I’ll help you organise your thinking and stay focused on what matters.

WHAT MY CLIENTS ARE SAYING

“What’s really special about Kate is that she is interested in understanding the DNA of your company and you.”

“I’ve hired a lot of consultants and I’m very skeptical of them. I generally find then superficial—great sales people but superficial in actual value. What’s really special about Kate is that she is really interested in understanding the DNA of your company and you, and so when she’s giving me trusted advice it’s coming from a depth of knowledge and insight. Now I find she’s an invaluable part of my advisory team.”

— Kristen Ma (she/her), CEO & Co-Founder Pure + Simple + Founder Holistic Vanity + Naturopathic Doctor

Looking at the shore of the lake through tall grasses

If you’re thinking about working with me, you are likely:

  • A few years into your business

  • Profitable and earning good money

  • Thoughtful, respectful, funny, and you care about building a better world

  • Nerdy about what you love, and doing cool stuff outside of work—work is not your whole life

You may have a sense of what’s possible for you and your business, but are unsure how to get there—perhaps you know that growing, even doubling, your revenue is possible, and you want help closing the gap.

Or perhaps you've got a thriving business, and now you’re not sure what’s next.

My business advice meets you where you are and gets you to where you want to go. Because change happens when we start with what is, not what we wish were true.

How to Know if This if the Support You Need

Begin With a Conversation

WHAT MY CLIENTS ARE SAYING

“Things get addressed through our conversations that I wouldn’t otherwise think to look at. We find a solution together.”

You keep me from ruminating and help me organize my thoughts.

“When I was finally ready to revisit the marketing side of my business – I knew I wanted partnership to carve out a strategy and so I turned to Kate. Being in Kate’s presence allows me to really connect with myself in a way that allowed me to understand where I am with my business and what is standing my way.

During our sessions, her thoughtful questions and active listening help me to sort out my thoughts. Her approach to marketing is refreshing because she never makes me feel like I need to do certain things to fit into a mold. Instead, we create the mold that is unique to me and my business and from there, I feel empowered and encouraged to market myself in a way that feels authentic and achievable.

Thank you Kate!”

— Taheera Fidaali (she/her), Fractional CFO and Founder Tula CPA

Successes my clients have seen while working with me.

I love seeing my clients achieve their goals. Oftentimes, they’ll say that our advising sessions together are ‘the difference that made the difference’, but part of what I do is helping business owners take credit for the growth they create. I’m here to offer support, space, and to steer them in the right direction. Some of the wins my advising clients have experienced by making this time to work on, not in, the business include:

  • Increase in annual revenue from ~$60K to more than $200K in two years as a solo service provider

  • Navigate 60% YOY revenue growth spurt, with five weeks off and clients they love

  • Increasing prices without losing revenue, meaning they maintained the vast majority of their clients and didn’t totally halt inquiries/sales after increasing their pricing

  • Developed and ran an 8-week training of their own IP to an international corporation

  • Vacation time with family without checking email more than twice a day or losing steam in the business. Many of my clients actually joke that if they want new leads, they should go on vacation!

  • Love their Tuesdays! I support clients in designing a business—and therefore life—that they enjoy on mundane, average days

FAQs

  • I work with traditional and hybrid business owners across industries who focus on high-quality work and sustainable growth. My clients include:

    • Craft and design professionals

    • Regulated professionals such as financial planners, accountants, naturopaths, and social workers

    • Fractional executives such as CFOs

    • Product manufacturers that sell online and in person

    • Organizational consultants developing their own IP

While many deliver products or services online, they’re primarily focused on revenue generation and providing a high-quality product/service rather than building a large audience.

My clients range from solo practitioners to small teams of co-founders to couples building businesses together.

I tend to work with people with complex lives and businesses (sometimes multiple businesses!). My clients are smart, curious, creative, committed, and often multi-passionate. They have a strong sense of responsibility to their people—family, clients, employees, and community. They care deeply about doing good work and want to benefit from the freedoms and flexibility that entrepreneurship affords them.

  • All new clients begin with a Foundational Month or Half-Day. After that, we work together on a month-to-month basis.

All engagements include meaningful call notes, email access/feedback between calls, and a private working folder with reflection resources (some clients like to do a monthly review here so they can see their own progress and learnings!).

Foundational Month or Half-Day (an investment of $1000–1800 CAD)

We begin by setting the high-level goals for your business and our work together.

We lay the foundations for business growth—such as the building blocks of updating your website, creating a marketing strategy, clarifying your ideal client, and answering bigger directional questions about the growth that's possible for you.

And we clarify what matters to you, and what success is for you. This then becomes the lens through which we pass all decisions.

We'll also audit your business and review how it's working for you, which may reveal a few other goals to focus on.

Month-to-Month Ongoing ($400–1200 CAD per month)

After that first month together, you'll choose if you'd like to move forward with one or two calls a month (you'll be quoted for both options in your proposal—no surprises!).

    Options include:

    • One 60-minute call a month: starts at $400 CAD

    • Two 60-minute calls a month: starts at $800 CAD

    • Two 2-hour calls a month: starts at $1200 CAD (often best for small teams, entrepreneurs with multiple businesses, or those who value lots of working time together)

The reason to wait to choose is that once we meet a few times and you get a sense of the rhythm that fits you best, you'll be able to decide what's right for you.

I don't keep anyone in long-term contracts, yet I'm proud that over 70% of my clients choose to work with me for over two years. We both win when you win, and I'm dedicated to your professional progress.

  • Our regular calls together create the time and space to work on, not in the business.

You may want to name clear goals and appreciate support in defining small steps and having accountability on the way to achieving these goals, or you may simply know ongoing advising/coaching is important for the level you're at and the growth you're trying to achieve.

It's different for everyone. What all my clients appreciate is having someone who understands how they work, how their business works, and what matters to them, so as they are in the week-to-week or month-to-month of running their business, they have someone to constantly check in with and get a second opinion from. Someone who can help them vet advice and ideas, reflect on challenges and wins, and who they trust will help them continue refining their business based on what's actually right for them.

Together, we'll work out what's right for you, and what will make the difference in your business.

Read this article to understand when and why ongoing support can be valuable.

  • I don’t have expertise in the following areas, although I can help you make high-level decisions about whether you should hire help in these areas and what questions you could ask to know if you’re ready to grow your business in that way.

    • Operations management

    • Corporate finance and accounting

    • Tech and systems

    • Tactical-level digital marketing, including SEO, social media, affiliate marketing, and email marketing

    • PR and media

    • Deep work on self-belief, confidence, and perfectionism. While these topics surface in our work, meaningful change in these areas will be best facilitated by a trained/certified coach or therapist

I will always share my limits. I will research, bring in experts, or refer out when possible by drawing on my network of specialists to help you find the person who can help with anything I can’t.

  • I don’t work with:

    • Startups aiming for a short-term exit through fundraising and acquisition. My skills best serve businesses operating with a long-term horizon. Those who ask: how can I be in this for decades, not years? Those who want steady, patient, sustainable growth.

    • Online businesses where social media is the main marketing channel. Too much is out of your control when you rely mainly on an algorithm to connect with customers. I'm focused on helping you explore steady, sustainable growth on your own terms so you can build something that lasts.

    • Very early-stage business owners—those still in the ideation phase or in their first 1-2 years—who aren't yet profitable and haven’t figured out the core product/service they enjoy. I work best with businesses that have some operating history and momentum. The exception is if you're a previous entrepreneur and this isn't your first business—you have a well of experience and self-understanding to draw on

Overall, my skills and sensibilities best serve those who are driven yet patient, and keen to build something sustainable over time.

  • My clients typically come to me when they're a few years into their business and making around $100K (or projected to make that in the next year).

Some signs you’d benefit from working together:

    • You want focused, individualized support as you navigate a new season of work (you’re leaving something or starting something new, you’re entering a new level of taking yourself and your work “seriously”).

    • It’s important to you to make meaningful progress on your business this year (you may already have a goal/intention in mind, but be unsure how to bring it about)

    • You want someone you can talk to about growing your business that’s not your partner/spouse/therapist. They’re fantastic support, but sometimes their advice can confuse you or lead you astray (or you don’t want to overload them). You suspect a relationship dedicated to supporting your business health would be useful

    • You need to figure out more authentic and effective ways of being in business (of growing or marketing your business, leading yourself/others, etc.)

    • You want to be less reactive, and more proactive in your business. You want to “lead your own growth”. Rather than feel like business is happening to you, you want to actively shape it!

    And you:

    • Want my opinion

    • Want to meet regularly

    • Would welcome someone to help you make decisions, who won’t just “yes man” you, but who will both give you space to think and offer solutions (a blend of coaching and advising).

If this sounds like you, the next step is to book a free, no-obligation consultation so that we can get to know each other and see if we’re a good fit to work together.
